TAC DRIVE KNOWLEDGE BASE
I put my TAC Drive in the computer, but no program started. What should I do?
Some computer systems are not configured for the autorun feature which would otherwise prompt you to access the TAC Drive. On other computers, sometimes it takes up to a minute for the files to be recognized and viewed by the computer. If nothing happens after this time period, open Windows Explorer or MAC OS X Finder and locate TAC Drive and its associated files. Doubleclick on the file with the TAC Drive icon to start the program. Please see the Quick Start and User Guide for additional details.
Some computer systems, including Windows 7, may partially block the autorun. If this dialog box does not show this "Start my TAC Drive" option, you can instead choose the option "Open folder to view the files on this device." When the new window opens, doubleclick on the file with the TAC Drive icon to start the program. Please see the Quick Start and User Guide for additional details.
Do I need to establish a TAC Online Basic account to create my medical profile?
Yes. By registering the TAC Drive you will be granted free 24/7 online access to your secure account for customizing and viewing your medical profile. This information can then be synced with your TAC Drive for later viewing.
Can I create my Medical Profile on my TAC Drive without internet access?
No, the medical profile is created through an online process and is not self-contained on the TAC Drive. Once created, it can be synced to the TAC Drive for viewing without internet access.
Each TAC Online account must be associated with a different email address. For example, in order to establish separate medical profiles for you and your spouse, you must each use your own email account.
Can I move the TAC Drive files into different folders or put all the files into one folder?
Moving the original files on the TAC Drive into different folders may cause some or all of the TAC Drive features to not run correctly. If you delete or move files around and cannot fix the problem, you can download the software from the support page at http://tacdrive.com/main/support#application
I just erased all the files on my TAC Drive. What should I do?
Go to http://tacdrive.com/main/support#application. Scroll down the page to the download section and click on the Windows or Mac installation link to download the replacement software to your TAC Drive. (Either link will install software compatible with both Windows and Mac)
Can I keep my medical profile from displaying when I start the TAC Drive?
Yes. You can make your Medical "My Profile" tab either public, hidden, or private (encrypted). To encrypt your profile on the TAC Drive so it can only be viewed after password entry, click on the padlock in the right upper corner of the "My Profile" screen and enter the encryption key. You can also hide this profile, as well as any other tab, from appearing by unchecking the appropriate box under the Edit and Preferences section of the TAC Drive application.
What happens if I select "Update Virus Database" under file menu?
This option is not routinely needed and should only be selected if you need to recover the antivirus file database. This "Update Virus Database" selection manually prompts the TAC Drive to contact the ClamAV server for the latest anti-virus definitions. Internet access is required for this process.
What happens if I select "Clean-up Repository" under file menu?
This should only be selected if a TAC Drive error message prompts you to clean-up the repository. This may be necessary if a specific error occurs during the sync and/or download process.
Why does it sometimes take a long time to encrypt a document?
Handling encrypted documents is slower than with unprotected files. The encryption and decryption process can easily take a few minutes for very large documents. If this process is taking too long, you can hit the cancel button on the encryption window to stop the process.
Can I reformat the TAC Drive to NTFS?
We do not restrict how you format your TAC Drive. That noted, the software on the TAC Drive is designed to run on an FAT rather than an NT file system. As a result, if you reformat your TAC Drive to a different file format, we cannot guarantee the stability of the software or the drive itself; in this case, the warranty on the TAC Drive would become void.
Do I need internet access to sync my TAC Drive?
Yes, internet access is required to sync the TAC Drive with TAC Online.
Sometimes your workplace or network administrator will put restrictions on user privileges that can block the sync process. This will not affect your ability to use the TAC Drive encryption software or view your files. Try syncing on your home computer and see if this solves the problem.
I own multiple TAC Drives. Can I sync them all to the same online account?
Yes, you can have multiple TAC Drives each syncing to the same TAC Online account.
Once a TAC Drive has been synced to an online account, special steps are needed to unlink it from that account and relink it to an alternate existing account. Therefore, once a TAC Drive has been synced to your account, it becomes uniquely yours, as each TAC Drive can only display a single medical profile. If you just need to change only the email addresses on the account, however, please see this TAC Online FAQ.
Can I start or initiate the sync process from TAC Online?
No. The sync process can only be initiated from the software on the TAC Drive, so the TAC Drive needs to be open and running to pull down the information from TAC Online.
Do I need to log out of TAC Online to perform a sync successfully?
No. You do not need to log out of TAC Online for the sync process to work -- just make sure to save any changes you have just made prior to syncing.
I lost my TAC Drive and got a new one. How do I get my medical profile on my new TAC Drive?
Simply plug in your new TAC Drive to your computer USB port and click on the My Profile tab. Go directly to New Users Step 2 (Registered Users), click the down arrow, and sync your TAC Drive with your TAC Online email login and password.
Any files placed in your "Records" folder will be saved to TAC Online during the sync process. These files will be accessible on TAC Online 24/7 as long as your subscription to TAC Online Premium remains active. Since these TAC Online files serve to backup the TAC Drive, if a file in the "Records" folder is deleted intentionally or by accident, it will be recovered to your TAC Drive during your next sync unless you also delete it from TAC Online.
Typical computer upload speeds are 4 times slower than download speeds. If a document is very large, it can sometimes take over 30 minutes to upload a file. If this process is taking too long, you can hit the cancel button on the sync window to stop the process.
I am having difficulty uploading a photo to my TAC Online account.
You can currently upload your profile photo only if the photo is a JPEG file (.jpg extension) and no larger than 256 x 256 pixels, or 50 KB in size. If you need to resize or reformat your photo, you can use your installed photo editor or go to www.shrinkpictures.com for free online image resizing. We recommend a maximum image resolution of 250 pixels.
My profile picture is too large on my medical profile page. How can I fix this?
If you need to resize or reformat your photo, you can use your installed photo editor or go to www.shrinkpictures.com for free online image resizing. We recommend a maximum image resolution of 250 pixels.
How do I change the email address on my account? Do I need to re-register my TAC Drive?
No, you do not have to re-register your TAC Drive. Instead, you can change your email address by logging into your TAC Online account with your current email address. Click on demographic info in the Account Information section in the left column. In the right-hand window that appears, type in the new email information and click save changes. Now your account has been updated to your new email address.
After I was logged in to TAC Online, I lost my connection after 10 minutes. What happened?
As a measure to protect your privacy of your data, we built in a provision to automatically log you off your account after ten minutes of inactivity. As long as you actively click any button on the website before ten minutes have passed, your account will remain open. If you are simply typing text and have not clicked a button, however, you will be automatically logged out. This is done to protect you in case you forget and walk away from the computer without logging out on your own.
This message appears if your browser version needs updating (version 3.1 or earlier) and does not fully support the advanced Server Gated Cryptography (SGC)-enabled SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption that Verisign and TAC Drive provide. If you still use version 3.1, you are vulnerable to "phishing" schemes and lack important security updates. Please upgrade your Safari browser to 3.2 or later to better protect yourself and your computer.
